Employee Spotlight: Meet Erna

Erna

Every month, we take some time in between meetings, e-mails, and support tickets to get to know one of our colleagues a bit better and beyond the usual office talk. This time, we went to Kuala Lumpur to talk to Erna, who was happy to share her journey within Blue Wireless and what she does when she is not rocking it at work.

Hi Erna, for an easy start, tell us a bit about you.

Hi everyone, my name is Erna Syafinaz, and I’m 27 years old. I am originally from Johor but currently living in Kuala Lumpur. I graduated with honours from the Malaysia Sabah University with a Bachelor of Computer Science (Network Engineering).

Seems like you were already on the right path towards Blue Wireless, but was it that straightforward?

Well, almost. Before I joined Blue Wireless, I use to work as a Customer Service Executive for a Celcom project for 5 months. That was my first job after I graduated, where I learned key soft skills, especially when dealing with customers.

After that, I found Blue Wireless’ Network Support Engineer position on JobStreet, and I was keen to apply as it was closely related to my studies. I felt very excited when I got an offer to join the team, even more, when knowing I would be joining a multinational company – which would be the first time for me.

Could you tell us a bit about your role – has it always been the same? And, what do you like about it?

When I joined, my first role in Blue Wireless was as a Network Support Engineer at our Global Service Centre (GSC). The GSC is a great team, where we are able to discuss work together and support each other at challenging times, especially when it comes to escalation matters. It has also been incredibly important for learning and improving my technical knowledge. Since the day I joined, the GSC has expanded and become stronger, which brings an even richer experience when sharing knowledge and working as a team.

Then, not long ago, after more than 2 years of holding this position, I received an offer from Syam to move to the Service Delivery team. I felt both excited and scared to make the change, but I took the challenge as an opportunity to continue learning and exploring new things. Now, it’s been one and a half months and I can feel I’ve now adapted to it!

Overall, one of the best things about working at Blue Wireless is getting to know colleagues from different countries and backgrounds. It’s also given me a lot of experience, and opportunities both for personal and professional growth. Finally, I also like the fact that it allows me to work with some of the most well-known companies in the world.

And beyond work, who is Erna? What do you like to do outside Blue Wireless?

I really enjoy hiking with family and friends as it can help reduce stress and boost mental health. Going on a hike can be challenging and exhausting, but it also can be easy and fun. More than the trail or the hiker, it is about connecting with nature. Furthermore, I love watching Korean dramas, which also helps me improve my Korean language – understanding and speaking it – which will be very handy as I am planning to travel there soon 😊

And talking about travelling, what fun tips can you give to those planning to visit Malaysia?

Malaysia is a very diverse country with a rich cultural heritage. About half its population is ethnically Malay, with minorities of Chinese, Indian and indigenous people (original people), which are mostly located in Sabah and Sarawak.

I would suggest exploring the beauty of Borneo, home to lush rainforests, diverse wildlife and the iconic Mount Kinabalu. Other than that, Malaysia is also home to several stunning beaches for visitors to enjoy, such as Perhentian Island in Terengganu, where we can see its white sandy beaches, vibrant coral reefs, and crystal-clear water.

Malaysia is also famous for its delicious street food. No visitor should miss out on trying the local favourites, like Nasi Lemak, Satay, Roti Canai, Char Kuew Teow, and so many more!
